Porch Design

Some friends of mine were looking for a bigger back porch for their growing family, that would also provide some privacy from their neighbors.

Proposal #1

I proposed a unique roof design, two individual structures acting as one.

Like wings of a butterfly or a paper plane...

Bisected by a beautiful, half round copper  gutter acting as the "spine"

The idea behind this concept was to create not only a functional structure but a living sculpture that comes alive when it rains.

The calming sound of the rain hitting the metal roof... being able to see the droplets fall into the interior of the space just before they are rerouted by the copper gutter to a flower bed near by.

On the opposite end, I designed a lattice that would block the neighbor's second-story view from across the street.

I also extended the porch to the right of the door so that it would not feel crowded. Additionally, I felt that the extension balanced the project as a whole.
